evilgoddss: Sturdy walls are good (NQM Mocked)
Well, a recap of my week.

The move on Tuesday was LATE. As in, very. The lawyer called with advisement that the keys were ready around 2pm. Yay! The movers called fifteen minutes later to say they were running late.

How late? Try 8:30pm late. Heh. The guys, though, that arrived with the truck were awesome. Good tempered, patient, efficient and cheerful! At 11:30pm, they had earned the $450 + $50 tip that it cost me.

Downside of the furniture move: my armoire didn't fit up the stairs. The hall upstairs is 41" wide. The armoire? 41.5". And at 84" tall, the gap between hall width, door height and length of the beastie meant getting it into my bedroom was nightmarish.

Dad and Grandad have figured out a possibility, but since I know that geometry challenges Dad, I'm worried. Tomorrow is D-day, though. As in Do-Day when we try to squeeze it in by playing the angles. Did I mention the armoire is HEAVY?

Painting didn't get done. Or started. At all. I rented a carpet steam cleaner on Wednesday. After doing the livingroom (twice), I came to the conclusion I'd need it for a COUPLE of days. Kept it until this morning. The previous owner had cats. Multiple cats. And apparently didn't mind living in tonnes of cat-hair. I think it's safe to say I've removed 80% of it all.

The bathrooms were creepy. I don't think the previous owner liked cleaning around / behind toilets. Don't get me wrong, it's not my favorite thing to do, but hello? Necessary evil. And the bathtub? I removed the old (mouldy) cocking, today. Tomorrow, I'm resealing it all. Ah, the joys of home ownership.

Laid a new tile floor in the laundry area. The area under the washer and dryer was-- untiled. Just left gaping, and causing the floor to be uneven. So, Grandad offered to lay the tiles there. Sweet. Only, he ripped up all the OTHER tiles too so that they'd all match when they were re-laid. This was NOT on my to-do list.

My good china is all laid away and looking pretty in my Grandmother's old hutch. I finished THAT project today, after I finished washing down the walls in the kitchen, hall and powder-room. I think, touch wood, I've done all I can do now before painting.

Deb, a really long-time and good family friend, is coming over tomorrow to 'consult' on paints. She's AMAZING at this decorating with paint stuff. I've got the swatches, and she and I will make the choices. Paul, the professional painter of extraordinarily cheap rates is coming tomorrow to quote on doing the living room/dining room and halls. I'm painting the 'peach' out of the powder room tomorrow.

The upstairs bathroom in it's lovely teal shades (sarcasm for the uninformed is utilized in that last statement), will be painted over next weekend (Thanksgiving).

Other upcoming (maybe) projects include replacing the front door light. Doesn't seem to be working WITH the new lightbulb, so... total replacement may be necessary. *shrug* And, the light to the stairwell hall is defunct too, but so high up I need an extension ladder. Dad said he'd bring that over next weekend.

Tomorrow: I'm painting Drew's room and putting in his new closet organizer. Right after I charge my drill.

The moral of the story: I've got a new hobby -- and the dry, cracked, very abused hands to prove it.

I want you to know, Claris, dear, that I have lingered online for hours to see if you popped up on IM. You didn't. And, since my much-abused body is beginning to bitch at me, I'm giving up on you.

I know, it's the story of your life. Venice was this weekend, wasn't it?
