Holy !@#$% Shit. The drive home tonight... hellish. Yeah, we're getting snow. And on clear roads like, oh, Bayview Ave, idiots are scarcely driving 30km/hr. (The speedlimit there being 60 km/hr.) Come ON idiots, the road is FUCKIN' salted.

However, having said that. Scooting down Cummer Ave (towards my street), which is a very hilly road, the car hit a patch of black ice. I could FEEL the ABS going nuts trying to stop the car, but stoppage... not happening. I swear my heartrate jumped to levels that it never does when running for 30 minutes on the treadmill!

I was going to drive to the bank / Shopper's Drug Mart and then go home. As soon as I had control of the car again, though, I said "FUCK IT!" and came home. I can *walk* to the bank and Shopper's Drug Mart, and yeah, after that, to the gym. Because I ain't fuckin' driving when the roads are THIS slick and the other drivers THAT stupid.

Thinking that if I could convince my ENTIRE family to move to California (Southern) it'd be a wise decision, right about now.

I walked to the bank. It's not far, 1.0 km (2.0 returning, of course.) However, there are the upside and downside of walking anywhere in Toronto when it's snowing.

Positive Aspects

  • It's exercise, done at a brisk pace, about 20 minutes worth.
  • The snow is quite beautiful.
  • I can take the Don River (North) Trail that backs Cummer Ave. all the way to Finch. It's beautiful. Scenic, no cars.
  • The parking lot at the bank has a sharp hill. Far easier to walk that than drive up it. Other cars were spinning tires useless trying.
  • My car isn't all smashed up.
  • Saves on fuel
  • You meet nice people with an adorable 3mth old sheltie puppy.

Downside about Walking to the Bank:

  • The trail isn't lit, shovelled, groomed or anything. It's pitch black out. At the least, I could have sprained my ankle. At the worst, I could have been mugged/raped. (Like this stopped me?)
  • Regardless of what route I take, I have to walk across the bridge that lies close to the road. VERY close to Finch Ave. So close, in fact, if I step a foot to my right (or left, depending on direction) I'm ON Finch Avenue.
  • TTC Buses drive VERY briskly
  • TTC Buses spray a LOT of sludge
  • Karma hates me. TTC Bus drove by WHILE I was walking across the !@#$% bridge.
  • The roads are VERY salted and sludgey
  • It's cold.
  • It's colder after you've been soaked by a !@#$% TTC Bus.
Obviously, the walk has positive and negative attributes. And as I sit here in my robe, with my coat dripping dry in the laundryroom, I'm contemplating WHY the FUCK it was SO important that I deposit my paycheque TONIGHT?!

But, the important thing, I'm not bitter at the Toronto Transit Commission and their !@#$% - ^&*( Buses.
